As part of Normal Birth Week, an awareness-raising and educational event for expectant mothers was held on October 2, 2026, hosted by the Canik District Health Directorate.

The event, hosted by the Canik District Health Directorate, was attended by the Deputy District Health Director, healthcare professionals from the institution, and expectant mothers. Research Assistant Dr. Zeynep Barol, a faculty member from the Department of Midwifery at Ondokuz Mayıs University’s Faculty of Health Sciences, contributed to the event as an educator.

Within the scope of the program, Research Assistant Dr. Zeynep Barol conducted a training session titled "Informed and Empowered Steps from Pregnancy to Birth." The training covered topics such as preparation for birth during pregnancy, the importance of normal birth for maternal and neonatal health, the physiological process of labor, coping with the fear of childbirth, making informed decisions, and boosting women's self-confidence regarding childbirth.

The event emphasized the importance of women accessing accurate and reliable information during pregnancy and childbirth, fostering confidence in their own bodies and the birthing process, and actively participating in childbirth to ensure a positive birth experience. Participants' questions were answered, and insights were shared to strengthen their knowledge and awareness regarding normal birth. The event, which combined the community-based health services of the Canik District Health Directorate with the academic expertise and educational support of the Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Midwifery, set a significant example of university-public sector collaboration.

The event aimed to raise public awareness regarding normal birth, support expectant mothers in preparing for childbirth with greater knowledge and confidence, and contribute to the improvement of maternal and infant health.
